The ShishaX VOLTA is an electric hookah head: it replaces both the head and the charcoal in a single device and sits on your hookah exactly where the head normally goes. Regular shisha tobacco goes into its ceramic chamber, and two electric heat zones supply the heat from above and from the side. You set the temperature and session length right on the device, and a swappable battery provides the power. No more lighting, turning and topping up charcoal, and no more ash either.

Hookah without charcoal: how the ShishaX VOLTA electric hookah head works

The device is built in three levels. At the top is the heating chamber with the lid, where you place the filled ceramic chamber. The display and buttons sit in the middle. At the bottom, the base cap holds the swappable battery, and its opening takes the silicone grommet that seats the device on the head adapter of your stem. Your stem, base, hose and mouthpiece stay exactly as they are.

Two heat zones: top and side, adjustable separately

The lid delivers radiant heat onto the tobacco from above, and the chamber wall delivers contact heat from the side. You set the two zones independently of each other, which lets you fine-tune precisely: if the tobacco gets too hot on top, turn the lid temperature down; if the flavour fades towards the end, turn the side zone up. As a starting point, the manufacturer recommends 200°C for both zones, around 200–240°C for dark leaf and around 180–220°C for blonde leaf. These are guidelines, not fixed rules.

Preheating and session length

Once started, the ShishaX VOLTA preheats for about 8 minutes. If you don't want to wait, you can skip the preheat. You set the session length in advance; a double tap extends it in 10-minute steps, up to a maximum of 150 minutes in total.

Regular shisha tobacco, about 10 g per fill

You don't need capsules or special tobacco. About 10 g of shisha tobacco goes into the ceramic chamber, between a lower and an upper metal screen. Fill the tobacco in loosely and fluff it up, don't press it down, and finish by wiping the chamber rim clean. Two ceramic chambers are included, so you can already prepare the next fill.

Setup at a glance

• Once, before first use: unscrew the base cap, pull out the battery, remove the insulation strip, put the battery back in and screw the base cap on tightly.

Swappable battery, USB-C and pass-through

The swappable battery (Li-Ion, 5000 mAh) sits in the base of the device. One charge lasts around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on temperature. It charges via USB-C, either in the device or on its own; a full charge takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, or longer with basic chargers. If the ShishaX VOLTA is plugged in with the battery fitted, it keeps running (pass-through). For even more independence, add a second ShishaX VOLTA Battery: take the empty one out, put the charged one in.

Control it on the device or with the ShishaX app

All you need for a session is the device itself: the colour display shows the duration and both temperatures, and you operate it with three buttons. There is also an LED ring with five modes, which can be switched off, and a button lock. The app is optional. With the ShishaX app (Android: Google Play; iPhone: via the SHX Browser with the web app shishax.app) you can save up to 10 presets, start preheating remotely, see live readings and adjust the LEDs. The app requires a ShishaX account. The device connects via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only), and firmware updates arrive over Wi-Fi.

Fits your hookah: 16/18 mm grommets

The ShishaX VOLTA sits on the head adapter of your stem just like a head. Two silicone grommets are included: the 18 mm grommet fits most hookahs; if it sits loosely, use the 16 mm grommet. To check, cover the top with your hand and draw on the hose. If you feel resistance, the connection is airtight.

What you no longer need

You don't add a separate clay head, phunnel or Egyptian head; the ceramic chamber does that job. Charcoal, foil and an HMD are no longer needed either, and an HMD can't be combined with the ShishaX VOLTA. If your hookah has an unusual or older head adapter, check before your first session that one of the two grommets seals properly.

Care and cleaning

After every session, switch the device off and let it cool down for at least 30 minutes. Then unscrew the lid, take the chamber out with tweezers, remove the tobacco leftovers and screens, and brush the heating chamber out dry. Replace badly clogged screens; rinse the others and let them dry. Take the battery out before a thorough clean. The device is not waterproof: never rinse it, never submerge it, never put it in the dishwasher. If the ceramic chamber discolours, that's normal; only replace it once it has cracks.

Manufacturer's warranty: registering with ShishaX

ShishaX provides a 1-year manufacturer's warranty on the device and 6 months on the battery, each from the date of purchase. This warranty only applies if you register your ShishaX VOLTA on the manufacturer's portal. Your statutory rights against us as the seller are not affected and apply even without registration.

What is an electric hookah head?

Is the ShishaX VOLTA an e-hookah that uses liquid?
