The AO Armored Foil is an unperforated aluminium foil on a roll: 25 m long, about 15 cm wide and 40 µm thick. It is made of aluminium, silver in colour and comes in packaging with a tear-off edge.
To poke the holes you need a fine tool; you will find a selection under foil pokers.
Thick enough for one layer
At 40 µm the armored foil is extra thick. It hardly tears when you pull it tight over the bowl, and a single layer is enough.
Unperforated: you decide the hole pattern
The foil has no holes. With a foil poker you set the number and arrangement yourself and adapt them to the bowl, tobacco and charcoal.
On the roll with tear-off edge
At the tear-off edge of the packaging you separate the foil cleanly from the roll. That way you only take as much as the bowl needs.
How to pack a bowl with armored foil
- Fill the tobacco loosely into the bowl, do not press it down, and pack it to just below the rim so the foil does not touch it.
- Tear off a piece of foil that overlaps the rim all the way round.
- Stretch the foil tight over the bowl and press it against the rim.
- Poke holes evenly with the foil poker.
- Place the charcoal on top, ease in the first pulls and regulate the heat through the number and position of the coals. Too much heat burns the tobacco.

How many layers do I need?
One. Thanks to the 40 µm thickness you do not have to double the foil.
Do I have to poke the holes myself?
Yes, the foil comes unperforated. You need a foil poker for that.
Is the foil wide enough for my bowl?
The foil is about 15 cm wide. Measure your bowl including the rim: the foil has to overlap it all the way round so you can stretch it tight and press it down.

Aluminium foil on the bowl, a sieve on top and the charcoal on top. And lets go. You can smoke really well like this and I even find the taste on some bowls a touch better than with an HMD. And bought by the metre, cheaper and more economical
