Lavart Spectra Alcedo is a tall ceramic multi-hole bowl with five raised holes. The Alcedo model shows a blue-orange pattern with dark blue and black. The bowl holds about 21 g of Virginia or 24 g of dark leaf.

Colors and pattern of Alcedo

Alcedo is the Latin name of the kingfisher, and the colors fit: blue and dark blue like the plumage, orange like the bird's breast. Black separates the color areas in the pattern. The colors black, blue, dark blue and orange sit as colored clays in the material itself (Nerikomi) and lie under a glaze. Because finishing and glazing are done by hand, every piece turns out slightly different in its pattern.

Construction of the Spectra

The tobacco lies in a reservoir a good 1.5 cm deep above five slightly raised holes. Part of the molasses thus stays in the reservoir instead of running into the stem; the bowl is still not a Phunnel. The foot is solid, and the bowl is about 9.5 cm tall. How to pack the Spectra Alcedo

Loosen the tobacco and sprinkle it loosely into the reservoir, leaving the holes free.
With an HMD fill to just below the rim, with foil leave 2 to 5 mm of air.
Light it for a few minutes with two to three fully glowing coals, add more if needed.
