The Lavart Aurora Mica is a Phunnel made of glazed ceramic from the Ukrainian brand Lavart. The Mica model shows black, cream, brown and orange. It is about 9.5 cm tall and a good 7 cm wide and holds about 21 g of Virginia tobacco or 24 g of Dark Leaf.
Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in the ring
In the middle of the bowl sits a raised chimney with a single hole. The tobacco lies in the ring around it, the center hole stays free. This keeps the molasses in the bowl and stops it running into the stem. It suits moist tobacco and longer sessions. Medium-depth bowl
The bowl is neither particularly shallow nor particularly deep. You pack the Aurora loosely to just below the rim and do not have to press the tobacco down. The heat comes from above and spreads over the ring.
Open rim for HMD or aluminum foil
The Aurora has no lip of its own for an HMD, the rim is open. An HMD that rests on top of the bowl is simply put on. You can just as well smoke it classically with aluminum foil.
Handmade in Ukraine
Lavart makes the Aurora in Ukraine from ceramic. Glaze and surface give each model its color. Because the bowls are finished by hand, the color gradient and small shape details differ slightly from piece to piece.
How to pack the Aurora
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the ring around the chimney and do not press it down. The center hole stays free.
- Fill to just below the rim so that the HMD or foil does not squash the tobacco.
- Put on the HMD or stretch the aluminum foil tight, poke holes only over the tobacco, not over the chimney.
- Heat it with two to three fully glowing coals and regulate the heat by the number and position of the coals. Add more if needed.

No. The Aurora is a Phunnel with one hole in the middle of the bowl.
Can I use an HMD?
Yes, an HMD that rests on top of the bowl fits. The Aurora has no HMD lip of its own.
Do the models differ?
In color and surface. Shape, bowl and chimney are the same for all models.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely, remove the tobacco residue and rinse it with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot take a thermal shock.
