Description

The Cosmo Bowl Turkish is a multi-hole bowl made of red clay, handmade in Russia. It is about 8.5 cm tall, just under 7 cm wide at the top and holds about 18 to 20 g of tobacco.

Turkish shape with holes in the depot floor

The bowl has the classic Turkish shape: wide rim at the top, narrow waist, wide base. The depot is about 5.6 cm wide, the holes sit in the floor, and there is no funnel in the middle. The tobacco lies directly over the holes, so the airflow stays open. Many people pack the Turkish with Dark Leaf, and Virginia tobacco works as well.

What is different about a multi-hole bowl

Unlike with a Phunnel, no funnel keeps the molasses in the depot. If the tobacco is too wet or packed too firmly, molasses can run through the holes into the smoke column. That is why you pack loosely and not too full, and you let very wet tobacco drain briefly beforehand.

HMD or aluminum foil

The rim has the standard size; common HMDs and smoke boxes sit cleanly on it. Aluminum foil works just as well, but you then need a bit more feel for the heat. Leave some air between the tobacco and the HMD or foil.

Red clay, shaped by hand

Cosmo Bowl shapes every bowl by hand from red clay in Russia and fires it at around 1100 °C. The clay is thick-walled and stores heat well, so give it a few minutes when lighting up. The models differ in the motif worked into the clay as a relief. To seal it on the hookah you need a matching bowl seal.

How to pack the Cosmo Bowl Turkish

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so the molasses is evenly distributed. Let very wet tobacco drain briefly.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the depot and do not press it down. The holes in the floor must stay free.
  3. With an HMD, fill to just below the rim; with aluminum foil, fill a little less so that 2 to 3 mm of air remain to the foil.
  4. Put the HMD on or stretch the foil tight, poke many small holes and re-tighten.
  5. Add the charcoal, heat up for a few minutes and control the heat through the number and position of the coals. Add more if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Cosmo Bowl Turkish?

About 18 to 20 g. The exact amount depends on the cut, the moisture and how loosely you pack.

Will my HMD fit on the Turkish?

Yes, the rim has the standard size. Common HMDs and smoke boxes sit on it, and aluminum foil works as well.

Do the models differ?

Only in the motif. Shape, depot and rim are the same on all Turkish models. Because every bowl is made by hand, each piece looks slightly different.

What is the difference to the Cosmo Bowl Shot?

The Shot is the compact version of the Turkish shape with a smaller depot and needs less tobacco. The Turkish is the bowl for the regular session.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl has cooled down completely do you rinse it with lukewarm water and clear the holes. Hot clay cannot take a cold shock.
