Charcoal tray and bowl
There is a link between the tray and the bowl that the trade describes: an unglazed clay bowl absorbs molasses into its pores. Once the pores are full after frequent use, it can seep out again during operation and drip onto the charcoal tray. In the scene, this process is called bleeding. The material basis is established: unglazed clay has open pores, and a glaze seals the surface.
