The Pot 5 Hole from Hookain is a multi-hole bowl made of stoneware, the multi-hole version of the POPO. It is around 7 cm tall and wide and holds around 13 g of Virginia tobacco or 17 g of dark leaf.
Blue Champion is glazed blue all over, the surface looks speckled, with light and dark dots almost like granite. Only the lip stays bare: there you see the stoneware in beige, a natural tone Hookain calls Stone. You can find the other glazes of the bowl under Pot.
A compact multi-hole bowl with five holes
There are five holes in the floor of the reservoir, and the tobacco sits directly above them. The reservoir is a good 6 cm wide and fairly shallow. This makes the Pot an economical bowl that gets by with little tobacco.
What is different about a multi-hole bowl
Unlike the Phunnel, there is no chimney to hold the molasses in the reservoir. If the tobacco is too wet or packed too firmly, molasses can run through the holes into the smoke column. That is why you pack the Pot loosely and not too full, and let very wet tobacco drain briefly beforehand.
HMD or aluminium foil
The rim is standard size, so any common HMD sits on it cleanly. The lip is roughened so the HMD does not slip. If you smoke the classic way, you stretch aluminium foil over it, and then you need a little more feel for the heat.
Solid stoneware from Spain
Every Pot is made from stoneware in Spain. The bowl is heavy and solid, so give it a little time when you start smoking it. A silicone bowl grommet is provided for sealing it on the hookah.
How to pack the Pot
- Briefly mix the tobacco in the tub so the molasses is evenly distributed. Let very wet tobacco drain briefly.
- Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir and do not press it down. The holes in the floor must stay clear.
- With an HMD, fill to just below the rim; with aluminium foil, a little less, so that 2 to 3 mm of air remains between the tobacco and the foil.
- Put the HMD on or stretch the aluminium foil tight, poke many small holes and tighten it again.
- Place the charcoal on top, let it get going for a few minutes and regulate the heat via the number and position of the charcoal pieces. Add more if needed.

Does my HMD fit on the Pot?
Yes, the rim is standard size. Common HMDs sit on it, and the roughened lip gives them grip.
Why does molasses run into the smoke column?
With a multi-hole bowl, the tobacco sits directly above the holes. If it is too wet, too firm or packed too high, molasses drips through. Packing loosely and not overfilling helps.
Do the models differ?
Only in colour and surface. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same on all models.
How do I clean the bowl?
Only once the bowl has cooled down completely, rinse it out with lukewarm water and clear the holes. Hot ceramic cannot tolerate thermal shock.

A good choice for me when it's time for multi-hole again
Compared to normal "stone multi-hole bowls" definitely an upgrade. Best smoked without contact, then ~15g is enough for almost 2 hours.
