Description

The Lesh Lip from Hookain is a solid Phunnel bowl made of glazed stoneware for standard HMDs. It holds around 17 g of Virginia tobacco or 24 g of dark leaf and is built for long sessions.

Large reservoir for long sessions

With up to 24 g of tobacco, the Lesh Lip has more room than the Lit Lip. According to Hookain, this makes it run 30 to 45 minutes longer and burn through evenly after around 1 h 45 min. It also runs from 17 g, but Hookain recommends 24 g.

Phunnel: one hole in the middle, tobacco in a ring

In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the reservoir all around it. This way no molasses runs into the smoke column, and the HMD delivers the heat evenly from above onto the tobacco.

Fireclay, heavy and glazed several times

The bowl is handmade in Spain from a blend of two fireclay clays. It is solid and heavy, is fired at a higher temperature than the Lit Lip and glazed several times. The thick material holds the heat for a long time and evenly.

Fits common HMDs

The rim has the standard size for chimney toppers; common HMDs sit on top of the Lesh Lip. A silicone bowl grommet is provided for sealing it on the hookah.

How to pack the Lesh Lip

  1. Briefly mix the tobacco in the tin so that the molasses is evenly distributed.
  2. Sprinkle the tobacco loosely into the reservoir around the chimney. Do not press Virginia down, dark leaf only lightly at most. The centre hole stays free.
  3. Fill only to just below the rim so that the HMD does not touch the tobacco.
  4. Put the HMD on, light up for a few minutes with two to three pieces of charcoal and regulate the heat via the vent.

The Allgaeushisha edition is glazed in orange, with black spots on top, and white adds light accents. Every bowl is glazed by hand, no two pieces are alike. Further glazes can be found with the Lesh Lip Phunnel bowls.

Frequently asked questions

How much tobacco fits in the Lesh Lip?

Around 17 g of Virginia tobacco or 24 g of dark leaf. How much it turns out to be depends on how loosely you pack.

What is the difference from the Lit Lip?

The Lesh Lip has a larger reservoir, is heavier and is made of fireclay. According to Hookain, this makes it run 30 to 45 minutes longer.

Do the colours differ?

Only in colour and glaze. Shape, reservoir and rim are the same in all colours. Because the glaze flows during firing, every bowl looks slightly different.

How do I clean the bowl?

Only once the bowl on the hookah has cooled down completely do you rinse it out with lukewarm water. Hot ceramic cannot cope with a cold shock, otherwise the glaze may crack.

Why does molasses come out on the outside?

Ceramic has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses is drawn in and comes back out on the outside as it cools. The glaze slows this down, but with ceramic it can never be prevented entirely.
