Tobacco heaters heat sticks instead of burning them. Unlike an e-cigarette, no liquid is used but a stick from the respective manufacturer's system. So you choose the device first and then the stick series intended for it.

Tobacco heaters for matching stick systems
Here you find the devices themselves, separated by manufacturer: IQOS, glo and Ploom. Examples are the IQOS ILUMA i ONE, the glo Hyper Pro and the Ploom Aura. Colour versions change nothing about the basic principle: what matters is which system you use and which sticks go with it.
Hookain tip: do not buy by colour or model name alone. First check which sticks your device takes: only SMARTCORE sticks such as TEREA belong in the ILUMA i devices; older Heets do not fit there.
What to look out for with the device
With tobacco heaters you do not set a coil and do not refill liquid. Depending on the device there are still settings, such as the boost function on the glo Hyper or four heating levels on the Ploom Aura. The system itself, however, is fixed: device and stick must match, which is why compatibility is the first check before buying.
The most important points at a glance
- System: sticks from IQOS, glo and Ploom are not interchangeable with each other.
- Design: the ILUMA i ONE is an all-in-one device without a separate holder. ILUMA i and ILUMA i PRIME consist of a holder and a pocket charger.
- Model designation: pay attention to the exact name. With glo, for example, Hyper Pro and Hyper X2 differ in display and charging time.
- Charging: battery life and charging time are stated for each device. The glo Hyper Pro is fully charged after about 90 minutes, the Hyper X2 after about 210 minutes.
How they differ from vapes
A tobacco heater is neither a pod system nor a classic atomiser. With vapes you control a lot yourself: liquid, nicotine strength, pod or coil. With a tobacco heater more is handled by the closed system of device and stick. That often makes the choice easier, but also less flexible.
So you do not look for wattages or draw types such as MTL and RDL, but for the right device in the right system. Only afterwards do you choose the sticks that go with it.
