The filter has only one value, currant, but the flavour has two directions: redcurrant with bright acidity and blackcurrant with a dark, tart, almost spicy note. The variety name often shows which is meant.
Its role in your own blend
Currant can form a counterweight to sweeter berries. In the flavourings on this page it sits next to raspberry, strawberry and blueberry; ice is the most frequent addition and brings a cooling effect. The combination with honeydew melon is somewhat more unusual, with the tart berry meeting a pale, sweet fruit.
