Under grey, two kinds of items sit side by side: bowls, mostly phunnels, and HMDs, meaning attachments placed on top of the bowl. On the bowls, grey is often combined with black, white, blue or green.

Thinking of bowl and HMD together

  • Function: The HMD is an attachment made of metal and fitted with a lid. The charcoal sits inside it, and you set the heat with the lid.
  • Difference from foil: With perforated aluminium foil, the charcoal lies directly on the cover. With an HMD, it sits in a container whose lid you adjust.
  • Fit: The HMD rests on the lip of the bowl, which should be flat and wide enough. There is no reliable measurement from which an attachment is guaranteed to fit, so compare the dimensions in the product details.
