Dragon fruit has a fairly faint flavour of its own, somewhere between kiwi, pear and melon. In tobacco it therefore needs partners that give it contour – and that is exactly what the data shows.

Partners with acidity

At the top, three sour values are almost level: lemon, raspberry and lime. They are followed by strawberry and, somewhat surprisingly, cola. Pitaya supplies the exotic base note, while the acidity comes from the second fruit.

With the bowl, the design decides what happens to the molasses. In a phunnel and a vortex, the openings sit on the raised central cone, and the liquid stays at the bottom of the reservoir. In a multi-hole bowl the holes are in the base, where it can drain into the stem. Dragon fruit varieties come from brands including Al Massiva Tobacco, 187 Strassenbande, True Passion, XRACHER and Venookah.
