Base tobacco and cut

Shades is based on Virginia, the blond base tobacco of the scene, where the flavour is clearly in front and the tobacco base steps back. The tobacco is ready to smoke and contains glycerine and glucose. It is made in Germany. You briefly pluck larger pieces apart before filling.

Bowl and heat

Virginia usually goes into a Phunnel. You fluff up the tobacco and fill it loosely without pressure until it sits flush 2–3 mm below the rim. Foil or HMD sit 2–3 mm from the tobacco. Two charcoals that have burned through are enough to light it; if it gets too hot, take one charcoal off or briefly lift the HMD.
