The value currant can stand for two rather different fruits. Redcurrant is bright, sour and juicy; blackcurrant, also known as cassis, is darker, more bitter and has a spicy, almost green note. The name of the variety usually reveals which one is meant.
Among other berries
The data shows currant mainly between other berries: blueberry comes first, with blackberry and raspberry level behind it. Some way back, lime and watermelon are added, making the profile sourer or more watery.
On the bowl: a hybrid between phunnel and multi-hole bowl is the power bowl. Its holes sit on a somewhat raised centre, the tobacco lies all around, and the molasses stays in the reservoir instead of running into the stem. Currant varieties are available from brands including Darkside, Aino, Sebero, Musthave and Al Massiva Tobacco.
