How pear appears in tobacco
Pear is sweeter and less sour than apple and has a fruit note of its own with a somewhat grainy character, reminiscent of the flesh of a ripe Williams pear. Unlike many fruits, it has not one main partner but several that appear about equally often:
- apple as a second pome fruit,
- ginger for a sharp, spicy edge,
- honeydew melon for a watery-sweet note,
- lemon for acidity,
- ice with a cooling effect.
This wide spread makes pear a flavour that can be mixed in quite different directions – fruity, spicy or cool.
With the bowl, the design decides where molasses goes. On a vortex bowl the holes sit on the side of the central cone rather than on top; as with a phunnel, nothing drains through the base. You will find pear varieties from brands including Smoke Island, Banger, Darkside, Aino and Savu.
