Vanilla rarely plays the lead; it is usually the creamy base of a dessert note. Pistachio is its most frequent partner, fruit joins less often.

Vanilla has a sweet, creamy, slightly woody flavour with a warm, bakery-like note. In hookah tobacco it usually serves as a foundation on which a second flavour sets the direction. The value is assigned by Kismet, Al Fakher, Bad & Mad, Blaze Dark Leaf and Whitecloud Berlin, among others.
- Pistachio and caramel: the dessert line, nutty or with burnt sugar.
- Ice: vanilla with a cooling effect, close to ice cream in profile.
- Maracuja and passion fruit: a tart tropical fruit as a counterweight to the sweetness.
With bowl materials, the terms deserve a closer look: earthenware has a porous body that would not be watertight without a glaze. Stoneware, by contrast, sinters dense during firing and holds water even unglazed, though its surface then remains rough. The German term Steinzeug means stoneware, not earthenware.
