Metallic is a surface effect: the colour looks as if it reflects light like metal. The value says nothing about the material. A phunnel with a metallic finish is still a bowl made of ceramics or earthenware, and its care follows whatever applies to that material.
What to look out for
- Material first: The material filter shows whether a bowl is earthenware, ceramics or clay. That determines how you clean it.
- Rapid temperature change: With ceramics, the temperature changes faster on the outside than on the inside. This creates stresses in the material that can lead to fracture.
- Colour combination: Metallic usually appears next to black, white or grey, sometimes with silver as well.
Besides bowls, this page also lists a tool: a foil poker which, according to its product name, is made of brass. Metallic items come from brands including Hookain, Lavart Hookah and Maklaud.
