Rhubarb hookah tobacco: tart with a dessert note
Rhubarb brings a green, distinct acidity. On the few varieties on this page it is almost always accompanied by something sweet.
Rhubarb tastes green, sour and somewhat tart, more of stalk than of fruit. As a flavour in hookah tobacco it is rare; the varieties that carry it almost always set a sweet component against the acidity.
Vanilla and marmalade turn it into a compote or cake note, while tiramisu goes even further towards dessert. Blackcurrant and strawberry, by contrast, stay fruity and pick up the acidity instead of cushioning it. Within a small range, two clearly different profiles emerge.
If you use an unglazed clay bowl, a trade term helps: bleeding is what the trade calls it when molasses that the open-pored clay has soaked up comes back out. Rhubarb varieties come from brands including Sebero and Brohood Tobacco. To compare the two directions, filter additionally by vanilla or by blackcurrant.
