The Lil Lip Whitewater is the small Phunnel from Hookain made of stoneware, white on the outside, blue on the inside. It is only 39 mm high and, depending on how you pack it, holds 12 to 16 g of tobacco, about as much as the larger Lit Lip.
On the outside the Whitewater is glazed in white and cream, calm and bright. In the reservoir and on the lip there is a glaze in blue to petrol, which stands out when you look into the bowl. You can find all glazes of the series under Lil Lip.
Flat Phunnel with a full reservoir
In the middle sits a raised chimney with a single hole, and the tobacco lies in the ring around it. This way the molasses stays in the reservoir and does not run into the smoke column. Because the bowl is so flat, the HMD sits low over the tobacco and the bowl needs little readjusting once it is going.
Rim for Kaloud and NaGrani
The rim measures 72 mm on the inside and 75 mm on the outside, the lip is 3 mm thick and ground smooth. Attachments such as Kaloud Lotus or NaGrani sit flat on top and finish flush with the bowl. You can find more attachments under HMDs and chimney attachments. The Lil Lip works just the same with aluminium foil.
How to pack the Lil Lip
- Briefly loosen the tobacco and sprinkle it loosely into the ring around the chimney, do not press it down.
- Fill to just below the rim, the centre hole stays free.
- Put the HMD on, get it going with two to three pieces of charcoal for a few minutes and then readjust using the vent.
Frequently asked questions
How much tobacco fits in the Lil Lip?
Depending on the cut and how loosely you pack, 12 to 16 g, with dark leaf more towards the upper end.
Does the Lil Lip have a rubber ring?
No. Hookain supplies it without a rubber ring, which has no effect on heat or flavour.
Does the light-coloured bowl discolour over time?
Light glazes show molasses and charcoal dust more quickly. Rinse it out after every session and the bowl will stay white for a long time.
Why does molasses come out on the outside?
Ceramic has fine pores. When the bowl gets hot, molasses is drawn in and comes out again on the outside as it cools. This is called bleeding, and it decreases over time. Fine hairlines in the glaze are caused by the heating and do not change the function.
How do I clean the bowl?
First let it cool down completely, then rinse it out with lukewarm water and go over it with a soft brush. Hot ceramic under cold water can crack.
